DWI Checkpoint Middletown NJ

The Monmouth County DWI Task Force will conduct a sobriety checkpoint to detect drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol this weekend.

In cooperation with the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, task force members will station the checkpoint from 11 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday on Route 35 North.

Task force members and Middletown police officers will pull vehicles from the northbound lanes into the Hudson City Savings Bank parking lot to conduct the sobriety tests, said Michael W. Palmer, task force coordinator and chief of the Brielle Police Department.

Drunk driving offenses in Middletown are among the most serious charges an individual can face.  In addition to the severe penalties imposed by the Court, DWI defendants experience the embarrassment and stress associated with these potentially life-altering charges.

New Jersey has some of the toughest drunk driving laws in the country.  Individuals convicted of DWI in Middletown face mandatory license suspension, fines, penalties and, in some cases, the imposition of an interlock device on their vehicle.   Individuals are also exposed to jail for a first and second offense, and mandatory jail for a third or subsequent offense.
